Terms of Service
Updated 2026/10/28
These terms apply to the washbear.app website operated by the WashBear team ("we") and to the online services that accompany the WashBear app: the update service, feedback, phone remote access (the relay and the phone web app at remote.washbear.app) and the future WashBear Pro. By using these services, you agree to these terms.
Software license
The WashBear desktop app is based on the open-source project MangoDisk and is published under its own brand with the original author's permission. Its source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3 (GPL-3.0). Your rights to use, copy, modify and distribute the software are set by the GPL-3.0, and nothing in these terms limits them.
These terms govern the website and online services, not the software itself. The names "WashBear" and "浣熊管家", the logo and the mascot are not licensed under the GPL. If you distribute a modified version, please use a different name and logo so that people don't mistake it for ours.
Online services
- Update service: checks for and downloads new versions.
- Feedback: receives the problems, suggestions and attachments you send.
- Phone remote access: the relay forwards end-to-end encrypted data between your Mac and your paired phones, and the phone web app lets you view the dashboard and run the actions you allow in a browser.
- Website: product information, downloads, documentation, pricing and similar pages.
These services are currently free. Phone remote access will be part of WashBear Pro; see Pricing for details. Scanning, cleanup and similar features run on your Mac and do not depend on these online services.
Acceptable use
When using our services, you must not:
- attack, disrupt or overload the services, for example by sending an abnormal volume of requests;
- access other people's devices, pairing information or data without permission, or try to bypass security measures or usage limits;
- use the relay for anything other than WashBear phone remote access;
- upload unlawful content, malware or content that infringes others' rights through feedback;
- break applicable laws.
If you break these rules, we may limit or stop your use of the affected services.
You decide what to clean
WashBear shows scan results, risk labels and recommended selections, but you decide what to delete, uninstall or change. Before confirming, check names, locations and sizes, and back up important data.
Many deletions are permanent: content removed by cleanups, uninstalls and deletions does not go to the Trash and cannot be recovered. Recommendations, risk labels and AI explanations only help you decide; they cannot guarantee that a choice suits your situation.
Phone remote access
You decide which phones to pair and which remote actions to allow, and you are responsible for keeping paired phones secure. If a phone is lost or no longer used, remove it in Settings → Remote Access. Remote actions such as force quitting an app can lose unsaved work.
Third-party services
If you connect a custom AI service in WashBear, your relationship with that provider, its fees and its handling of data are governed by its own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services.
Payments and Pro
WashBear Pro is not on sale yet. Purchase, renewal and refund terms will be added to these terms before Pro goes on sale.
No warranty
As stated in the GPL-3.0, the software is provided "as is", without any warranty. The website and online services are likewise provided as is and as available. We work to keep them reliable, but we don't guarantee that they will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that cleanup or optimization will achieve any particular result.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses, data loss or lost profits arising from the use of, or inability to use, the website and online services. Our total liability for the online services is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the affected service in the 12 months before the claim. Liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as for losses caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, is not affected.
Changes and termination of services
We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the online services, for example by moving the relay to a new address or adjusting features. We will try to announce significant changes on the website in advance. You can stop using the services at any time by turning off phone remote access, removing paired phones or uninstalling the app.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms and update the date at the top of the page, and we will point out significant changes on the website or in the app. If you keep using the services after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms; if you don't agree, stop using the affected services.
